USB audio interface gives you plenty of I/O for your projects
At the heart of the SONAR V-Studio 100 system is the VS-100. This feature-packed device pulls triple-duty as a 8-channel audio interface, a computer-free live mixer/SD recorder, and a full-fledged DAW control surface. To start, though, let's take a look at through the audio interface lens. Thanks to its USB 2.0 port, it sends audio into your Mac or PC at high speeds. Two channels sport XLR microphone preamps (with phantom power) as well as 1/4" TRS line inputs, so you can bring in your choice of sources. The SONAR V-Studio 100 VS-100's additional inputs come in the form of two TRS inputs and two RCA inputs, and two channels over a digital coaxial input. That's a lot of recording capability. And on the output side, you've got flexibility as well: six analog outputs (four on TRS, two on RCA) let you send out audio to a pair of studio monitors and a handheld recorder at the same time — whatever your needs require.
VS-100 doubles as a computer-free live mixer/SD recorder!
Lots of us spend part of our time in the studio; the other part of the time we're out jamming with friends or performing a show. But, many audio investments lock you into one place or the other, forcing you to load up on separate gear for each application. The cool thing about the Cakewalk SONAR V-Studio 100 is that the heart of it — the VS-100 — is ready to handle all of those environments. It works as a computer-free standalone mixer, making it easy to dial in sounds at the show or tweak levels at band practice. In fact, four kinds of onboard reverb, six channels of EQ, and six channels of compression give you all the right tools to get a great-sounding live mix — just adjust them all via the helpful LCD display (the display also shows you meter levels — sweet, right?). But, maybe the even cooler part is, the SONAR V-Studio 100 VS-100's also got a built-in SD card recorder, meaning you can press one button and record the jam session or gig straight to SD. You can even play back audio from the SONAR V-Studio 100 VS-100's SD card — so, maybe you want to play along with backing tracks, or use its built-in metronome to rehearse a song in time. Finally, once you connect the SONAR V-Studio 100 to your computer via USB, you can quickly transfer all of that recorded audio to your DAW — then edit it, mix it, mash it, master it... whatever you want to do.
Integrated control surface works with any DAW
If you're an audio production fiend, you'll love the VS-100's integrated control surface. It works with any DAW via Mackie's control protocol — so you can bring it into whatever workflow you're rocking right now. Onboard, there's a 100mm motorized, touch-sensitive fader for writing automation and making precise level adjustments. Then, 5 rotary encoders and 11 buttons let you take control of such essential functions as level, panning, EQ, and more. The SONAR V-Studio 100's VS-100 is rounded out by a full transport control section. Nice.
DAW comes included: you get the powerful SONAR VS production environment
You don't need anything to get making music: it's all inside the Cakewalk SONAR V-Studio 100 package. The included DAW (for Windows only) is a powerful version of SONAR, SONAR VS. It lets you record, edit, and mix your songs with professional tools — you can tweak up to 64 audio tracks and unlimited MIDI tracks. SONAR V-Studio 100's SONAR VS DAW also makes it really easy to burn your tracks to CD or upload them to the web, so you can share them on MySpace.
